We believe that everyone deserves access to and can benefit from high quality arts experiences. Dance, and ballet specifically, can be a vehicle for cultural education, as well as the physical, social, and emotional development of an individual and community. Ballet as an art form combines many creative expressions, and thus can be used to bring together diverse societies. Based in these beliefs, this educational outreach initiative aims to:
Foster meaningful partnerships that develop community arts education in Dallas
Complement arts education within partner organizations with a focus on ballet and creative movement
Provide exposure to high-quality arts, ballet and dance education for our community
Empower students as they learn and explore through the creative process

Workshop Classes: 3-6 Years Old
Saturday, October 10, 2020 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 17, 2020 3:00-4:00 p.m.
This pilot workshop is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for children of all ages with differing abilities, at no cost to families. The workshop will include two one-hour classes each for ages 3-6, 7-12, and 13 and up. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of ballet technique and creative movement. These interactive classes will assist students in developing an awareness and knowledge of body movement, posture, locomotor skills, as well as musicality and freedom of expression. Students will be exposed to the music and stories of notable ballet works. Sensory stations and props will be set up to help maintain the safe and comfortable
engagement of each student. Teachers and volunteers will be trained in safety precautions and methods to ensure an enjoyable and controlled learning environment for all participants.
Our future plans are to expand this into a full program that offers two sessions per year, each session including ten, one-hour classes. Physical/occupational therapists (when possible), musicians, trained volunteers, and teachers will also be present in the classroom. Each program session will culminate with a performance for students to demonstrate what they have learned.
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PERFORMANCE
Hosted at The Hockaday School
This lecture-demonstration performance is designed for fourth through twelfth grade students and will last approximately one hour. Students attending are elementary, middle and high school students from a number of local Dallas schools.
The professional dancers of Ballet Dallas will perform excerpts of the Company’s spring performance, Flourish. The program will conclude with a Q&A between the students, Company dancers and the Artistic Director. This performance is graciously hosted at The Hockaday School in partnership with United to Learn.
